Introduction:
Who is CMSNA and What do we do?

We are a 501 (c) (3) Nonprofit Organization. We are here to share, educate, and carry on the heritage, culture, and traditions of Clan MacDougall and Clan MacDowall of Scotland.

Our Purposes are Literary,
Historical & Educational.
Here are our Specific Purposes:

  • To produce and distribute print and multimedia materials related to our two Clans.
  • To collect and preserve historical materials related to our two Clans.
  • To encourage tourism to Scotland, specifically to sites of importance to our two Clans.
  • To preserve our important historical sites.
  • To facilitate academic study in traditionally Scottish topic areas through scholarship programs.
  • To perpetuate Scottish traditions and customs, promote Clan sentiment, and social interaction.
  • To support other literary, historical, educational or similar activities as the Board of Directors determines.

Ways to be involved:

Committees
-Find out which one fits your skills, talents, and passions.
-We have 10 different committees and one is just waiting for you.
-Volunteer to be part of the team.
-OR volunteer to lead the team.
Events
-We have games and events all around the North American
Continent that is just waiting for you to get involved. Ask us how!
-Getting involved doesn’t mean you have to plan something (but
you can definitely do that too if that is your skillset). It’s more
about you getting the word out, hosting for the nonprofit, and
keeping in touch with those who attend that event.
-Events are “Saint Andrews Night,” “Burns Night,” hosting a clan
tent at a festival, getting a local group together to go share a
lunch or activity, etc.
Games Coordinator
-Become a regional commissioner or a state representative or get
in touch with one and volunteer to host a clan tent in your area.
Board of Directors
-Become a member of THE Leading Team, our Board of Directors.
There are 6 officers and 12 directors. Elections happen every
year. You must be an annual contributor in order to volunteer. Our
Committee members and chairpersons as well as our Games
hosts are where we look for new directors first. that could be
you or someone you know.

How do we fulfill our Purposes?

Our e-Newsletters, Brochures, Website, Social Media sites, and Books from various sources help us to carry out the purpose of preservation through print and multimedia materials.

Collecting and Preserving historical materials for the two clans is achieved by collecting a list of books and where to purchase them, keeping an archive of materials, and publishing written works of research.

Encouraging tourism to Scotland especially to our heritage sites is only part of what our International Gatherings are all about. Sharing our experiences, the International Gatherings hosted by Clan MacDougall’s current Chief ~ Madame Morag MacDougall of MacDougall and Dunollie, and continuing to share activities happening at Dunollie, and invitations from Madame Morag to visit Dunollie are also ways in which we encourage tourism. Another such way is by keeping records of our castles (past and present) and other historic and heritage related sites and sharing how you can visit them as well.

Preserving our historical sites is fulfilled by supporting Dunollie, Kilbride, and other sites with Donations for maintenance, repairs, upkeep, and restoration projects annually from donors like you.

Perpetuating traditions and customs, promoting Clan sentiment, and social interaction all happens at our Games and Festivals and Local Events. Here is where you can meet our hosts and volunteers in person and have a wonderful time learning and exploring your heritage and more.

To support other literary, historical, educational or similar activities as the Board of Directors determines happens in projects, committees and any way the Directors can imagine for our Volunteers.

Our Annual Campaign

Like most charities, we fundraise in order to make things happen. Our annual fundraiser takes place November 1 through December 31 every year.
This fundraiser is another way for you to be involved but definitely not the only way. We love our annual contributions and donors. They are the ones that make what we do possible. Contributions and donations are not just monetary. Volunteering is you giving your most precious commodity – time. Money can be saved and spent. It comes in and goes out. Time is different. Time can never be recovered, repeated, and there are no “do overs.” That is why volunteers are so important and appreciated.
It takes a lot of group and team efforts to make this annual Campaign happen successfully. . . . and we couldn’t succeed without the help and assistance of our generous donors – giving members like you who care about seeing our heritage survive well into the future for the next generations to come.
Thank you for all that you do, for all that you give, and for your passion and commitment to Clan MacDougall and Clan MacDowall.
